BALTIC MILES RUNNING MARATHON

COMPETITION RULES

1. OBJECTIVES
To promote running as an accessible sports activity.
To increase the skill of Latvian runners.
To promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
To increase tourist numbers in Jūrmala and Latvia

2. THE ORGANIZER
The competition is organised by SIA Alpha Baltic Sport in cooperation with Jūrmala City Council.

3. RACES
Baltic Miles half marathon (21.097 km) starts at 12:00. During the race, traffic will be stopped both ways. Start/Finish area is located on the Dzintaru beach. The track will be marked out in a rugged terrain (along urban roads, forest roads and the Jūrmala beach). First aid team will follow after the last competitors.

TV6 5 km run starts at 12:20. The 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and 500th competitor who makes it to the finish line will receive guaranteed prize money of EUR 100. Start/Finish area is located on the Dzintaru beach. The track will be marked out in a rugged terrain (along urban roads, forest roads and the Jūrmala beach). During the race, traffic will be stopped both ways. First aid team will follow after the last competitors.

Children’s run will take place in the Start/Finish area and start at 13:30.

4. START TIMES
The competition will take place in Jūrmala on 15 August 2010. The location of the Start/Finish area is on the Dzintaru beach.

07:00 – Registration begins, competitors pick up their number tags
10:30 – Registration ends for the Baltic Miles half marathon
10:50 – Registration ends for the 5 km run
12:00 – Registration ends for the Children’s run
12:00 – Start of the Baltic Miles half marathon
12:20 – Start of the 5 km run
13:30 – Start of the Children’s run

5. REGISTRATION
Preliminary registration for the competition starts on 19 July and ends on 12 August at 15:00 at www.maratoni.lv, by using the payment form at http://ib.swedbank.lv (for Swedbank customers with online banking) or by credit/debit card online (Visa, MasterCard, Visa Electron, Maestro).

Registration on the competition day
On the competition day, registration will start at 7:00 am in the Start/Finish area at Dzintaru beach, Jūrmala. Registration will close 1.5 hours before each race.

8. COMPETITOR’S NUMBER TAG
Number tags will be issued to the competitors upon registration on the competition day. During the competition, the number tag must be placed on the competitor’s back. All competitors will receive special time measuring devices (chips) provided by Winningtime. Time measuring devices (chips) must be returned immediately after the finish. They will be detached by qualified specialists. All competitors must place their chips as specified by the organizers. Penalty for a lost chip is LVL 15.

11. GENERAL PROVISIONS
When picking up the number tag, each competitor will be required to sign a confirmation stating that he/she accepts full responsibility for his/her health and that they are fit to participate in this event and that he/she will comply with the traffic regulations.
The organizers are not responsible for any possible injuries received by the competitors during the competition.
Competitors who perform unwarranted shortcuts during the race will be disqualified.
Matters not regulated by the competition rules may be decided by the judges together with the organizers.
The organizers are not responsible for the violation of the regulations by competitors due to ignorance.
Organisations and teams may receive an invoice and pay it by bank transfer. The invoice must be paid 3 days before the competition.
The entry fee will not be returned to participants who are unable to attend the competition.
Any competitor using an unofficial number tag will have their results nullified.
Doping test may be performed during the competition.
Any competitor, who believes that he/she has been restricted by some action before crossing the finish line, may submit a petition to the chief judge. The petition must be submitted in writing within 15 minutes after the competitor has finished the race, along with a fee of LVL 20.
